24 Fixes for When Apple TV+ Not Working, Loading, Playing or Keeps Buffering

1. Inspect the Apple TV+ Server Status

Before proceeding to more technical steps, we recommend checking the Apple server status first. This step is to help us identify whether the cause of the buffer issues is on your end or a server-side issue.

This is because if the Apple TV+ app on your device is unable to connect to the servers, it causes a communication issue. Consequently, you won’t be able to fetch and view any content from the servers, causing buffer issues. However, even though rare, if the problem was with the servers at the moment, you would have wasted time and effort trying unnecessary fixes.

With that said, here are a few methods you can follow to check the Apple server status.

Method 1: Through the Apple Official Support Page

For starters, Apple provides a dedicated page that lists down the server statuses for all Apple-related services. For your convenience, we have attached the link to the page here.

Simply access the page and locate Apple TV+. Here, if the indicator next to Apple TV+ is lit green, it shows that the server for Apple TV+ is up and running.

Method 2: Through Third-Party Server Status Checkers

Alternatively, you can also check the Apple server status using third–party server status checkers. These websites are user-based sites that predict the server status using the number of user reports received.

One of the top sites on our recommendation list is the Downdetector’s page for Apple TV+. This is because it has a live chart of the number of reports, filters out the most reported problems and allows users to interact in the comments. If you’re worried about inaccuracy in the status predicted due to location differences, This site also allows you to choose your country or location through the live map for more reliable results.

Another third-party status checker that provides similar features is the ServicesDown page for Apple.

Method 3: Through the Apple TV+ Twitter Page

Additionally, you can also check for the Apple TV+ server status on their Twitter page. Although there is no direct status indicator on their Twitter page, suppose Apple TV+ is facing a major nationwide problem affecting many of their users. In that case, they’ll likely post a notice or information on their feed to keep users updated.

2. Check the Number of Devices Streaming Apple TV+

Next, Apple TV+ allows a maximum number of six concurrent streams. By using Family Sharing, up to six of your friends or family members can all stream their own content at once.

This number is relatively larger compared to most on-demand streaming services available in the market. However, suppose you try to stream on more than six devices at once simultaneously. Then, you will likely encounter the “Apple TV+ Streaming Limit Reached” error message, otherwise buffering issues resulting in your Apple TV+ not loading or streaming properly.

Apple TV+ Streaming Limit Reached error message causing the stream not working, loading, playing, keep buffering issues

Hence, when troubleshooting, you should check for any other devices that may be streaming Apple TV+ content using your subscription. However, seeing that Apple TV+ doesn’t require additional device registrations, you’ll have to do so manually by asking friends and family that are sharing your account.

3. Ensure That You’re Not Streaming Geo-Restricted Content

Additionally, another possible cause for your Apple TV+ loading problem is that you’re streaming geo-restricted content. This means that the title you’ve selected may not be available in your region yet. Even though Apple TV+ is now accessible worldwide, there are still geo-blocks placed on different contents.

For example, for now, up to 64 regions around the world such as only Georgia and Iceland have access to synced videos on the Apple TV app. This is mainly due to copyrights and distribution rights. Moreover, they also have licensing agreements with film and television producers. Hence, they are restricted from releasing the content on a country-to-country basis.

Thus, if you’re watching a geo-restricted program on Apple TV+, you might encounter the “This video isn’t available to watch in the country or region you’re currently in” error message:

Apple TV+ This video isn't available to watch in the country or region you're currently in error message

You may check whether your country is supported to stream Apple TV+ here and for more information regarding the availability of Apple Media Services according to region.

Accordingly, one such way you can access or watch a particular geo-restricted show or movie is through using a VPN service (like NordVPN!), which will be explored in more depth in the following step.

4. Set Up a Stable VPN Connection

Now, suppose you realize that the content you’re planning to watch is not available in your region yet. In this case, you could wait it out, but, if you’re very eager and determined to watch the show, you can get around this geo-restriction by setting up a Virtual Private Network (VPN). The VPN simply hides your real location and connects you to a server located where the content is accessible.

1. Using a Premium VPN Service (Automatically)

Essentially, subscribing to a premium VPN service (like NordVPN!) is the most popular and easy method to bypass geo-restricted content or browse securely. Instead of manually setting up the VPN connection, simply launch the premium VPN application and select the server location you wish to connect to.

It’s that simple!

Additionally, these VPN services are perfect as they also mask you from getting flagged by Apple TV+ and other streaming services or, even worse, halt your Internet connection.

Plus, don’t miss out on the wide selection of VPN services available, most of which are really affordable!

So, need a Top-Tier VPN for Apple TV+? Try NordVPN!

From our experience, we found that NordVPN works well with Apple TV+. It successfully connects you to a different location’s server and sets up almost instantly. So, you can begin watching your favorite shows and movies almost instantly and without buffers.

  13. Finally, click OK and Apply.

You can connect to the VPN configured by clicking Connect. Based on the sign-in method selected, you may be required to enter your username and password again.

5. Disable or Reconnect Your VPN Connection

However, using a VPN can also cause your Apple TV+ stream to buffer. There are a few reasons behind this situation. For starters, your VPN service may be of low quality and lack the resources to provide a stable Internet connection. Consequently, it can cause Internet interruptions. Plus, low quality VPN services are also easily detected and blocked by Apple TV+’s anti-VPN alerts.

In that case,  you can either try to reconfigure/reconnect your VPN connection or connect it to another server in the region or even a different area. To do so, go to your VPN app, disconnect your VPN connection, turn it back on again or select a different server.

reconnect VPN Nordvpn to fix Apple TV+ not loading or playing

Subsequently, relaunch Apple TV+ and check if your streams run smoothly without buffers. You might have to repeat this step several times to ensure your VPN connection is set up correctly.

If you set up your VPN connection manually, the steps to take are as follows:

  1. First, go to Settings > Network & Internet.
  2. Then, select VPN from the left side menu.
  3. Next, choose the VPN connection you want to disable.
Turn off and reconnect VPN and reset location settings on Windows to fix Apple TV+ video unavailable, not working, loading, playing, keeps buffering or streaming issues
  4. Finally, click Disconnect or Remove.

Subsequently, inspect if the loading problem is solved.

6. Install Pending Apple TV+ App Updates

Furthermore, interfering app bugs and glitches can cause streaming issues on the Apple TV+ app. App bugs can result from an outdated Apple TV+ app version. When your Apple TV+ app is out-of-date, it causes communication problems with the servers, as mentioned in Step 1. Consequently, the app is unable to process newly added content retrieved from the servers due to incompatible formats and code.

Another reason it’s important to keep your app updated is because these updates include essential bug fixes for the Apple TV+ app. Hence, as we’re speaking, there may already be a fix for the loading issue on the Apple TV+ app.

With that said, here are the steps to check for Apple TV+ app updates. Generally, these steps are similar across most streaming devices you might be using:

  1. First, go to your device’s native app store, where you initially installed Apple TV+.
  2. From there, search and locate the Apple TV+ app.
  3. Then, visit the Apple TV+ app page.
  4. Subsequently, if there are updates available, the Update button will be visible.
  5. So finally, tap the Update button if available.

update the Apple TV+ app to fix Apple TV+ video unavailable, not working, loading, playing, keeps buffering or streaming issues

However, perhaps you’re unable to update the Apple TV+ app on your device. In that case, it may be more of a compatibility issue than an actual problem. You may be streaming Apple TV+ on a device with an incompatible operating system version. For this matter, you may refer to Step 18 for more information.

7. Relaunch the Apple TV+ App or Refresh the Website

Perhaps you’re using a Windows PC, a Chrome OS device or an Android device. For these devices, the Apple TV+ app may not be made available yet. Nevertheless, you may still be streaming Apple TV+ using a web browser such as Chrome or Firefox.

So, suppose the Apple TV+ not loading or the web page isn’t working correctly. We suggest reloading or hard refreshing the page to clear out any old instances of the web page. This is because these old instances may have piled up and become corrupted over time.

Similarly, if you’re using the installed Apple TV app to watch Apple TV+, you can achieve a similar result by restarting the app. Essentially, both aim to reinitiate your session with the platform to resolve any temporary issues present in the previous session.

With that said, you can carry out this step by simply following the instructions below:

Reload the Apple TV+ Web Page

A regular reload clears out the existing instances of the Apple TV+ web page on your browser. However, it does not clear any cache data. Hence, your browser will load the web page using its assets from the browser cache.

Disregarding whichever browser you using (Chrome, Firefox, Edge), the steps to refresh the Apple TV+ page are similar:

  • Click the reload button on the web browser
  • Press the Ctrl + R key (For Windows) or the Command + R key (For macOS).
reload the Apple TV+ webpage to fix Apple TV+ video unavailable, not working, loading, playing, keeps buffering or streaming issues

While it’s optional, you can also take it further and restart your web browser. Simply close your web browser, reopen it, visit the Apple TV+ website, and you’re good to go!

Hard Refresh the Apple TV+ Web Page

A hard refresh differs from a regular reload where it will remove some minor cache associated with the Apple TV+ web page along the way. Suppose regular reloads didn’t work for you. You can force load the most recent version of the web page using this method.

On Windows: For most web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge), press Ctrl + F5 together at the Instagram page to perform a hard refresh.

Restart the Apple TV+ App

Suppose you have the Apple TV+ app installed on your iOS device, macOS device, set-top box, or Smart TV. Then, rebooting the app can bring about similar effects as refreshing the site. Hence, to carry out this method, follow the steps below:

  1. First, exit the Apple TV+ app.
  2. Then, close the app by removing it from your Recent Apps or App Switcher. If you’re using other set-top boxes, you can Force Stop the Apple TV+ app through your Settings app.
  3. Subsequently, relaunch the Apple TV+ app from your homepage or app list.

8. Reboot or Power Cycle Your Streaming Device

After relaunching the Apple TV+ app, you can also take it a step further and reboot your streaming device as well. Powering off and then powering back on your device can fix any number of strange, temporary issues you might be experiencing with Apple TV+ not loading or playing as usual.

This is because it can help to free up system resources on your device for Apple TV+ to run at optimum performance. Next, restarting your device removes any corrupted or incompatible code lurking in your device’s operating system. The corrupted code can result from the faulty execution of app installations, updates, and deletions. Hence, you can use this step to troubleshoot and keep your device healthy regularly.

With that said, the steps to reboot your device are as follows:

For Android

  1. First, press and hold the power button until the restart or power off option appears.
  2. Then, tap the Restart option.
restart android device to fix Apple TV+ not loading or playing

For iOS

  1. First, press and hold either the volume button and the side button until the power off slider appears.
  2. Then, drag the slider and wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off.
  3. Next, to turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

For Roku Devices

Roku devices can vary from set-top boxes and streaming sticks to TVs. All these Roku devices, except Roku TVs, don’t have an On-Off switch.

This is because these devices are not designed to be turned off. Instead, they are supposed to be connected to the Internet to keep your device’s operating system and other apps updated. Despite this, Roku devices actually consume very little power.

However, for troubleshooting, to restart your Roku device, these are the steps:

  1. First, press the Home Button five (5) times on your remote
  2. Then, press the Up Arrow once
  3. Next, hit the Rewind Button twice
  4. Lastly, press the Fast Forward button twice

This will automatically restart your Roku after a few moments, and then you can attempt to open the Apple TV app again. Another way to restart your Roku device is by going to System from your Home Screen. From there, scroll down and click System Restart and select Restart.

Note: Depending on the type of Roku device you’re using, the process of rebooting your Roku device may differ. It can be shutting it off and turning it back on, as mentioned. Alternatively, you may need to disconnect it from the power and then reconnect it once again (Power Cycling).

For Samsung TVs

Hold the power button down on your TV remote for more than 5 seconds. If you do not have the TV remote, unplug the TV for 30 seconds, plug it back in, then turn it on again.

For Amazon Fire TVs and Android TVs

The first method is to press and hold the Select and Play or Pause buttons simultaneously for five seconds.

The second method is to go to Settings > Device and then select Restart from the Fire TV menu. Subsequently, just wait for your device to turn on. You can use this second method if you’re using an Android TV.

The steps to restart your VIZIO device are as follows:

  1. For starters, press the menu button on your TV remote.
  2. Then, choose System > Reset & Admin > Soft Power Cycle.
  3. Finally, wait for your device to power off and restart.

For LG TVs

  1. First, press the Home Button on the TV remote. From there, the Menu will show.
  2. Suppose you lost your remote or your remote isn’t working. In that case, hold down the power button on the TV for 10 seconds. It is usually located at the side or on the bottom.
  3. Then, scroll down to Settings and select General.
  4. Subsequently, choose Reset.
  5. After that, follow the on-screen instructions given until you arrive at the last page.
  6. Next, press Confirm and enter your TV’s password.
  7. Lastly, select Restart.

Note: Suppose when you first bought your LG TV, you never changed the password for it. In that case, the default pin is either 0000 or 1234.

However, if the default pin doesn’t work, you can try these steps as well to reset your TV’s password/pin:

  1. First, open the LG TV menu and choose Settings.
  2. Then, scroll down, locate and select Advanced Settings.
  3. From there, choose Safety and choose Reset Password.
  4. Subsequently, press the channel up button twice, followed by the channel down button and then the channel up button one more time.
  5. After that, enter 0313 in the first box and 0000 in the subsequent box.
  6. Next, create a new password.
  7. Lastly, refer to the above steps to reboot your LG TV.

Power-Cycle Your Streaming Device (For Set-Top Boxes, Smart TVs, Game Consoles)

For streaming devices connected to an electrical outlet 🔌, you can also reboot the device through power-cycling. Power-cycling is also known as a hard reset and is proven more effective than a regular reboot.

This is because it can reset the power source in the streaming device and clear up the device’s RAM. The steps to power cycle your streaming device are simple:

Simply turn off your streaming device and unplug all the cables, mainly the power cord and HDMI cable. Then, wait for 1 to 2 minutes before plugging the wires back correctly and turning on your device.

9. Reset Your Remote Control

Moreover, the Apple TV+ buffer issue may also be caused by a problem with your remote. In most cases, if your remote is not working, simply recharge the batteries using a lightning cable for 30 minutes or so before trying it again.

Suppose your remote is low on battery charge or the batteries haven’t been swapped out in a long time. Your remote may start working erratically, not controlling the Apple TV+ app properly. Consequently, it gives the impression that there is a streaming or buffering issue on the Apple TV+ app.

However, perhaps you’re sure that the remote is charged, but it still isn’t working. Then, you can try power-cycling your device (Step 8) and reinstalling the batteries in the remote. This step can help to re-pair your remote with your device.

Another way to do so is to locate the Link or Pairing button on your remote. It is typically located near the battery holders of your remote controller. Simply press the button when your device is on and inspect if the remote is paired.

reset your remote control to fix Apple TV+ not loading, playing or showing video unavailable

Another way to re-pair your remote with your Apple TV is to hold the remote close to your device. Then, on older remotes, hold the Menu button, while on newer second-generation remotes, hold the Back button. Simultaneously, press the Volume up button for about five seconds until an on-screen message appears to pair the remote. From there, follow on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Some remotes don’t come with a link button or a pairing method. In that case, it may be a standard IR remote that requires a clear line-of-sight connection with your device. Hence, you should check the batteries and ensure no obstructions between the remote and your device.

Nevertheless, we as users may have many digital devices in our homes that come with their own respective remotes. To overcome remote clutter, your Smart TV may have the option to download and use the device app as a controller. Suppose you’re utilizing this feature, then there may be an issue when connecting the app to your device. To verify this assumption, head over to Step 10 for more details.

10. Use the Smart TV Remote App on Your Mobile Device or Tablet

Suppose you’re using the mobile remote app for your Smart TV. Then, the error may be due to issues with your input device instead of the Apple TV+ app or the streaming device itself. Hence, ensuring that the app is connected to your Smart TV correctly is important.

When using the remote app for your respective Smart TV on your mobile or tablet, there are a few things to keep in mind:

Ensure Your Mobile Device and Smart TV are Connected to the Same Wi-Fi Network

For starters, you should ensure that your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Smart TV. To verify this on your mobile device or tablet, simply pull down the notification shade and long-press the Wi-Fi button. It will redirect you to the Wi-Fi Settings page. From there, you can identify which Wi-Fi network you’re connected to. For your Smart TV, click the Home button on your TV remote. Then, go to Settings and select Network > Network Status. Suppose you’re using a dual-band router. Then, the two devices must be on the same band.

Disconnect Any VPN Connections

Plus, avoid using a VPN connection when using mobile remote apps for your Smart TV. This is because some VPNs may route all applications through it, causing your Smart TV to not display the mobile remote app.

Configure the Smart TV Settings to Allow Remote App to Connect

Furthermore, there is also a setting that must be enabled for the Smart TV remote app to work. This setting on your Smart TV allows the mobile app to control it. To locate this setting, follow the steps below:

  1. First, press the Home button on your TV remote.
  2. Then, select System and press Advanced System Settings.
  3. Next, choose Control by mobile apps and click Network Access.
  4. Lastly, pick either Default or Permissive for advanced configurations.

Ensure Your Devices Are Running Their Latest Software Version

Additionally, you should also make sure that your mobile device, tablet and Smart TV are updated to the latest software version. For more information on this, you may refer to Step 19.

11. Disconnect or Unplug Your HDMI Connection

Perhaps your TV does not support the Apple TV+ app. Hence, you’re playing Apple TV+ content on a different device, such as your iOS mobile device, tablet, or web browser. Then, you can mirror the content to your TV using an HDMI connection.

This practice may cause buffering issues when streaming on Apple TV+. This is because Apple TV+ doesn’t support mirroring connections. The service must run on one of the supported devices listed in this article. Similarly, the browser viewing of Apple TV+ is also meant to be watched on that computer itself as well.

Nevertheless, you may try troubleshooting the HDMI connection by re-plugging it, reversing the connection, or using a different cable.

reconnect the HDMI cable between streaming device and TV to fix Apple TV+ video unavailable, not working, loading, playing, keeps buffering or streaming issues

You may also consider using Airplay to mirror or screencast your Apple TV+ stream. This applies if you’re streaming using an Apple device (iPhone, iPad, Macbook) and your display or TV supports airplay. Airplay makes streaming or screen casting your shows, videos, and even just your device screen to a larger screen (e.g., Apple TV, iMac, AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV) seamlessly and optimally.

12. Test Your Wi-Fi or Internet Connection

Next, when streaming Apple TV+, it’s essential to ensure that you’re connected to an Internet connection to avoid issues such as Apple TV+ not loading. This is because the app requires a stable Internet connection to fetch content from the servers. Without an active Internet connection, the app is non-functional.

That being said, For a smooth Apple TV+ streaming experience, Apple recommends a 2.5 Mbps download or connection speed for standard-definition (SD) viewing, 6Mbps for 720p content, and 8 Mbps for 1080p high-definition (HD) content. However, the minimum Internet speed required will increase with the number of concurrent streams.

Test Your Internet Speed

Hence, when it comes to problems with your Internet connection, we suggest testing your Internet speed first. You can do so on Internet speed test websites such as Fast.com. This website allows testing for low speeds and latency with almost instant results.

test your internet speed on Fast.com to ensure stable connection to access Apple TV+ to fix Apple TV+ video unavailable, not working, loading, playing, keeps buffering or streaming issues

From there, if you notice a drop in Internet speed, you can contact your internet service provider (ISP). Alternatively, you can also try these few ways to improve the connection:

Forget and Reconnect Your Wi-Fi Network

For starters, you can try reconnecting your Wi-Fi connection. This is because it allows your device software and access points to reset all the protocols involved. It works because your devices are better tested for initial connection than maintaining long term connections.

With that said, you can simply do so by turning the Wi-Fi setting off and on again via the notification shade.

Else, you can also attempt to forget your Wi-Fi network on your streaming device. The following are the general steps to do so:

  1. To start, go to Settings.
  2. Then, select the Wi-Fi option.
  3. Next, click on the Wi-Fi you are connected to.
  4. Subsequently, choose the Forget this Network option.
  5. After 2 to 3 minutes, reconnect to the Wi-Fi network again.

Reset Network Settings

In another scenario, if you notice your Internet connection constantly drops and reconnects, then you should do a Wi-Fi network connection reset. This step allows you to fix your Internet connection without having to meddle with other device settings.

However, the steps may vary across different brands of streaming devices:

For iOS

  1. First, go to Settings and tap General.
  2. Then, select Transfer or Reset [Device].
  3. Next, choose Reset.
  4. Finally, tap on Reset Network Settings.

For Roku

  1. Firstly, from the Home Page, access Settings.
  2. Then, select System.
  3. After that, click on Advanced System Settings and locate the Network Connection Reset option.
  4. Lastly, choose the Reset Connection option.

After resetting your network settings, you can proceed to Settings > Network > Set up a new connection to reconnect your device to your Wi-Fi.

Note: Ensure you have the necessary information for your Wi-Fi connection, such as the password. This is because resetting your device’s network settings will erase both your wired and wireless network (SSID) settings such as cellular settings, VPN and APN settings. Some devices also automatically restart upon the execution of this step.

Restart Your Router or Modem

The purpose of restarting the router or modem is to give them time to cool off and flush out its memory. However, do keep in mind that rebooting is not the same as resetting. When it comes to rebooting your network devices, whether a router or a modem, the sequence makes all the difference.

These are the steps to do so:

  1. To begin with, turn off and unplug the power from your router or the modem and any other managed network hardware such as network switches.
  2. Then, wait at least 30 seconds before proceeding. These 30 seconds allow the devices to cool down and signal your ISP and streaming devices that the router and modem are offline.
  3. Next, plug in the modem. The modem should power on in the first few seconds. However, if it doesn’t, just press the Power button.
  4. After that, wait another 60 seconds for the modem to authenticate and get assigned a public IP address from your ISP.
  5. From there, plug in your router and wait at least 2 minutes for your router to boot up. This time also lets your streaming devices obtain the new private IP address assigned to your router.
  6. Finally, once all that is done, test if the problem persists.
restart or power-cycle your Wi-Fi router to improve internet connection to fix Apple TV+ not loading, playing or showing video unavailable

Note: Most modems have four lights: a power light, a received light, a send light, and an activity light. When the first three lights are stable, the modem is fully powered on. If there’s an Internet light, wait for it to turn on to confirm that the modem is getting an Internet connection from your ISP.

Connect Your Device to the Router Using an Ethernet Cable

Additionally, you can also connect your computer or Smart TV to the Internet with a wired connection using an Ethernet cable for a more stable and secure connection. This is because an Ethernet cable transfers data over a wired connection and isn’t easily affected by external interference and interruptions.

use a wired connection with ethernet cable to improve internet connection to fix Apple TV+ video unavailable, not working, loading, playing, keeps buffering or streaming issues

Plus, older wireless routers may not support the 802.11a, g or n wireless network required by Apple TV for video streaming. Nevertheless, when using an Ethernet cable, ensure that both ends are properly connected and that there’s no loose wiring. A loose Ethernet cable can halt the transmission of data to your device correctly, causing buffer and streaming issues on Apple TV+.

reset your Wi-Fi internet router to fix Apple TV+ video unavailable, not working, loading, playing, keeps buffering or streaming issues

Relocate your Internet Router

Next, you can also relocate and reposition your router for better Wi-Fi signal strength. We recommend putting it at a central location elevated off the floor. This is because the reception at these locations is at optimum levels.

However, when positioning your router, there are also a few places you should avoid. For one, avoid putting it behind physical barriers such as furniture that can block your Wi-Fi signals.

Secondly, don’t put your router near wireless devices such as microwaves and cordless phones. The devices emit electromagnetic waves that can interfere with your Wi-Fi signal.

Disconnect Unused Devices From your Network

Moreover, to get the most bandwidth when streaming Apple TV+ content, you can also disconnect any unused devices connected to the same internet. For better troubleshooting accuracy, we also suggest having others pause their network activities for the time being.

Switching to Standard Definition

Furthermore, in cases where you have a fluctuating connection, you can lower your stream quality to 720p or standard definition. This is because these video resolutions require less internet bandwidth than streaming at 1080p or 4K.

To do so, for content you stream from the iTunes Store, simply head to the Settings menu > iTunes Store > Video Resolution.

13. Try Streaming on Other Streaming Services

Another method to troubleshoot the cause of the Apple TV+ not loading or other buffering issues is to try streaming on other streaming services like Netflix. When troubleshooting, it’s important to note that other streaming services will adapt to your Internet connection and can adjust to a very low rate.

In contrast, Apple TV+ uses a fixed rate and tends to stream at a higher quality. Hence, it requires a higher consistent connection. That indicates that other streaming services working doesn’t rule out network issues (Step 12).

Under the assumption that your internet connection is stable, suppose the issue persists on other streaming services as well. Then, it may be an issue with your streaming device.

However, if the problem only occurs with Apple TV+, we recommend contacting Apple Support (Step 24) for further assistance and guidance. You can also continue diagnosing to see whether it is an issue with a specific title on Apple TV+ (Step 14).

14. Check for Buffer Issues on Other Apple TV+ Titles

Furthermore, we suggest checking for buffer issues on another Apple TV+ title. This is because there may be a problem with the original/initial title you’ve selected, as it may not be available in your region yet (Step 3).

It could also be because the movie selected is experiencing heavy demands at the moment. Hence, the Apple servers are unable to keep up and transmit the needed content files in time (Step 1).

Additionally, the audio or visual files obtained may be corrupted or incompatible with your device. To verify this possibility, simply pick another Apple TV+ title at random and check for any loading issues. Feel free to repeat this step with a few other shows for extra assurance.

test watching or streaming a different show or movie on Apple TV+ to fix Apple TV+ video unavailable, not working, loading, playing, keeps buffering or streaming issues

Suppose the buffer issue only occurs for a specific title. In that case, we suggest reporting the issue to Apple Support (Step 24). However, if the Apple TV+ stream keeps buffering no matter what title you pick, you may want to continue trying other fixes.

15. Stream Apple TV+ on a Different Device

At this point, we have ruled out the chances of the issue coming from a specific title. Nevertheless, another possible cause for the issues of Apple TV+ not loading may be an underlying problem with your streaming device.

For example, many users have been experiencing trouble streaming Apple TV+ content on their Roku devices. To investigate this matter, you can switch streaming devices, and from there, look out for any buffer issues on the new device.

test watching or streaming Apple TV+ on a different device to fix Apple TV+ video unavailable, not working, loading, playing, keeps buffering or streaming issues

Suppose the new device loads Apple TV+ correctly. In that case, you can settle with that device temporarily. As for your old device, the problem may be because it isn’t supported by Apple TV+.

For instance, the Apple TV+ app has been made available on Android TVs but not on Android mobile and tablet devices as well as Windows PCs. So, suppose you try to stream on these devices, you may encounter buffer problems. A few supported Smart TV brands include LG, Roku, Sony, Samsung, and definitely Apple TV itself. For more specific details on which models are supported, you may refer to this article.

test watching or streaming Apple TV+ on a different device to fix Apple TV+ video unavailable, not working, loading, playing, keeps buffering or streaming issues

However, suppose the loading issue still occurs on the new device. If so, it may not be an issue with your device. With that said, you can move on to other fixes or proceed to report the Apple TV+ not loading or playing as a usual problem to Apple Support (Step 24).

Note: Other devices working do not rule out a network issue. Those issues can come at any time and are also generally intermittent.

16. Try Streaming on Another Web Browser

Suppose you’re facing loading issues when using a web browser to stream Apple TV+, such as on an Android mobile device or tablet. In that case, a troubleshooting method you can try is to stream on another web browser. This step can help to identify if your original web browser is the cause of Apple TV+ not loading or playing as usual problems.

use a different web browser to fix Apple TV+ video unavailable, not working, loading, playing, keeps buffering or streaming issues

Perhaps the Apple TV+ content loads correctly on the new web browser. In that case, there are a few likelihoods regarding your original web browser that you can look into.

For starters, your web browser may be incompatible or unable to support the Apple TV+ website. With the various browsers available, Apple has prepared an article on how to stream Apple TV+ on web browsers. In the article, it is specifically mentioned to stream on the Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers. However, Microsoft Edge and Safari are also supported. Apart from the browsers mentioned, if you’re streaming on any other browser, it may not be supported. For your convenience, we have also inserted the link to the Apple TV+ website here.

Additionally, other browser-related problems that may lead to buffer issues on the Apple TV+ are:

  • You have adblockers and other unsupported extensions enabled on your web browser (Step 17)
  • Your web browser is outdated and cannot process new content retrieved from the servers (Step 18)
  • There is unwanted internet cache and data on your web browser (Step 23)

17. Disable the AdBlock Extension on Your Web Browser

Moreover, extensions can also cause loading issues on Apple TV+ as it disrupts the normal operations of the streaming service’s website. One of the commonly used extensions are adblockers, as they prevent advertisements from popping up on the site. This extension can obstruct the advertising videos inserted in the middle of movies and even mistakenly disable certain elements or disrupt scripts on the Apple TV+ website.

That being said, to disable the adblock extension, you can follow these steps. Do take note that the steps may vary depending on the type of browser you’re using:

Steps to Disable the AdBlock Extension

For Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge (Windows)

  1. First, visit the Apple TV+ web page.
  2. Then, click the AdBlock icon on the top-right of your browser. A drop-down menu will appear.
disable adblock extension on web browser to fix Apple TV+ not loading, playing or showing video unavailable
  3. Then, select Always under the Pause on this site section.
disable adblock extension on web browser to fix Apple TV+ not loading, playing or showing video unavailable
  4. At this point, the web page should refresh. The AdBlock icon should turn from red to green. This change indicates that AdBlock is disabled for Apple TV+.
disable adblock extension on web browser to fix Apple TV+ not loading, playing or showing video unavailable
  5. Finally, refresh the Apple TV+ page (Step 7) again if necessary.

Note: While Chrome and Microsoft Edge support both AdBlock and AdBlock Plus, Firefox no longer supports AdBlock. However, the steps to disable other ad blocker extensions are similar.

For Safari

  1. First, open up your Safari browser.
  2. Then, click on Safari, located in the menu bar.
  3. Next, select Preferences. The Preferences window will be displayed.

Steps to Turn Off Other Extensions on Your Web Browser

While you’re at it, we recommend checking for other enabled browser extensions, plugins, and add-ons as well. The reason is that they can also impede and affect troubleshooting results. Therefore, you should temporarily disable all of them when troubleshooting the Apple TV+ not loading or buffering issues.

On that note, you can follow the steps below to disable web browser extensions:

For Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Mozilla Firefox (Windows)

  1. Firstly, click the 3 dots at the upper-right, hover over More tools, and click Extensions.
disable adblock and google extensions to fix Apple TV+ not loading, playing or showing video unavailable
  2. On the Extensions page, under the extension, you wish to disable, turn the switch off.

18. Make Sure Your Web Browser is Up-to-Date

As previously mentioned, if you’re on a web browser, Apple clearly states to stream Apple TV+ on either Chrome or Firefox. However, they didn’t mention the minimum version required to get an error-free streaming experience.

Hence, we recommend updating your web browser to the latest version for assurance. This effort will ensure that your web browser can interpret even the newest audio and video data, avoiding loading and buffering errors on your Apple TV+ stream.

To update your web browser, follow these steps:

For Google Chrome

  1. For starters, open Chrome on your device.
  2. Then, look at the More icon on the top right corner.
  3. Next, check if pending updates are available. If an update is pending, the icon will be colored. The color of the icon indicates how long the update has been released.

Once the browsers are updated, don’t forget to relaunch the browser to configure the updates.

19. Check for Pending Streaming Device Updates, Contact the Streaming Device Manufacturer for Support

Additionally, outdated device software can also lead to buffering issues when streaming Apple TV+ movies. This is because Apple developers may have updated the Apple TV+ app and changed its ways of connecting to the servers. Plus, your device may be unable to process new video and audio formats used in Apple TV+ programs.

For Apple TV+, Apple didn’t specify the minimum device requirements needed for smooth streaming. Hence, we recommend just installing any pending software updates released by your device manufacturers when faced with Apple TV+ not loading or buffering issues.

The general steps to do so are as follows and may vary slightly across devices:

For iOS

  1. First, back up important data and plug the device into a power source.
  2. Next, connect the device to a Wi-Fi connection.
  3. Then, launch the Settings app.
  4. From there, select General and choose Software Update.

From there, you should allow Windows to check for any available updates. Windows will proceed to install any pending updates available for your PC.

For Smart TVs

  1. First, navigate to Settings.
  2. Then, select Support and choose Software Update.
  3. Next, suppose there are pending updates, select Update Now. Else, click OK to exit.
  4. Finally, select Auto Update to turn it on.

During the update, you shouldn’t turn off the TV until the update is complete. When the update is finished, your Smart TV will restart automatically. For Samsung TVs, Auto Update is turned on automatically when you agree to the Smart Hub Terms and Conditions in the initial setup.

Note: Most TVs will get updates with new features for about two years. Updates may still come but will generally be for fixing issues. You can still add new features to your TV with an evolution kit. Some TVs don’t come with software updates, especially older or cheaper models. Their software version will remain as it is and will not receive updates. Therefore, some of you may find this fix irrelevant for your TVs.

For Other Set-Top Boxes and Smart TVs

The following are links to official guides you can refer, to check for pending OS updates on your set-top box:

Note: Some TVs don’t have software updates, especially older or cheaper models. Their software version will remain as it is and will not receive updates. Therefore, some of you may find this fix irrelevant for your older-generation TVs.

Downloading and Installing Updates From Device Manufacturer’s Website

Another way to update your device software is to contact the device manufacturer for support. To find contact information for a product’s vendor or developer, visit their website or search the web for their name or their product.

Occasionally, you may also be able to find the firmware file for your device on the manufacturer’s website. These files can be downloaded and later installed on your Smart TV using a USB flash drive.

The steps to do so are as follows:

  1. First, after heading to the manufacturer’s website, search for your TV or enter your model number. This will bring you to the support page for your specific TV.
  2. Then, locate the firmware file under Downloads and find the latest version.
  3. Next, select Download next to the firmware version to download the compressed file.
  4. After that, in your File Explorer, locate and unzip the file.
  5. Subsequently, copy or move the folder into a USB drive. Do not place this folder inside any other folders, or your TV won’t be able to detect it.
  6. Then, connect the USB drive to your TV and follow the steps for installing updates for Smart TVs above.
  7. Finally, your TV will search the USB file for update files, and you’ll need to follow on-screen instructions to install them.

20. Clear the Apple TV App Cache and Data Files

Moreover, another fix we suggest trying is clearing the Apple TV app cache and data files. This is because built-up cache memory can occupy memory space on your device. Consequently, it can potentially deteriorate your device’s performance. Some of the cached data may also be corrupted, leading to bugs and ultimately issues like Apple TV not loading.

Hence, to resolve this issue, you can follow these steps to clear the Apple TV app cache and data.

For Android TVs, and some set-top boxes like Amazon Firestick, you can clear all the Apple TV app data through the Settings app. To navigate to these settings:

  1. Firstly, open the Settings app
  2. Then, tap on Apps & notifications.
  3. Next, select Apple TV from the list of apps.

For Amazon Fire TV devices, you can check out their guide to clear app cache here.

21. Reinstall the Apple TV App

Furthermore, you can also reinstall the Apple TV app to fix the loading and buffering problem. The reason for this fix is that reinstalling the app will remove all corrupted files and faulty or corrupted installations associated with the app. It also gives you the newest and latest copy of the Apple TV app. This step is also a way to clear the Apple TV app cache and data files, especially if you’re using an iOS device.

That being said, to reinstall the Apple TV app, simply follow these steps:

For iOS, iPadOS, and Android Devices

  1. First, uninstall the Apple TV+ app. This can be done by long-pressing for the selection menu.
  2. Then, select Uninstall or Remove App.

  1. You can access the Apple TV+ channel immediately by clicking Go to Channel or access it anytime from your Home screen.

Note: Deleting the Apple TV+ app will not cancel any subscriptions you may have purchased with the app. You can still retrieve your account using your Apple ID and password.

22. Delete Your Web Browser Cache

Perhaps you’re streaming on a web browser. It’s also important to clear your web browser cache to get new updates released for the Apple TV+ web page to curb streaming and buffering issues that lead to Apple TV+ not loading or playing as usual.

This is because with the cached files cleared, your browser will request new assets from the Apple servers. These new assets include the new features and necessary bug fixes for the site.

As a result, communication problems between the Apple TV+ website and the servers, such as mismatched formatting and broken programs, can be avoided.

With that said, the steps to clear your web browser’s cache are as follows:

On Windows

The following steps are catered for Google Chrome. However, if you’re using a different web browser on Windows (Firefox, Edge), the steps are still similar:

  1. You can access your browsing history by pressing Ctrl + H together. Or click the menu button at the top-right and choose History at the drop-down.
  2. On the following page, click the Clear Browsing Data button. For Google Chrome, that’ll be on the left.

23. Reset the Streaming Device Settings to Factory Defaults

Suppose you have tried all the fixes in this article, but you still have the same problems of Apple TV+ not loading or playing as usual. Then, one of your last resorts before contacting Apple Support (Step 24) is to factory reset your device.

Restoring it back to factory conditions will wipe out all your settings and stored data, along with the sign-in information for all apps. However, it can help to free your device from any corrupted codes and restore it to working condition.

When you’re ready, follow these instructions to reset your device:

Note: Before performing any factory reset on your devices, ensure that you remember or have access to your login information for the apps on your device. This is because you’ll be signed out of all the apps. Additionally, for Samsung devices, you’ll also require your TV pin.

For iOS

  1. First, navigate to Settings and tap General.
  2. Then, scroll to the bottom of the General page and tap Reset.
  3. Next, choose Reset All Settings.
